“The Social Network” Takes Dallas, Detroit and Las Vegas

In more awards news, “The Social Network” can add three more critical accolades to its repertoire. Recently, the Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association, the Detroit Film Critics Society and the Las Vegas Film Critics Society have all named David Fincher’s film as the best of the year.

Both Las Vegas and Dallas also honored the film with awards for Best Director (Fincher) and Best Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin). In other news, James Franco picked up a bit of steam by winning Best Actor awards from both Dallas and Las Vegas, as well. Colin Firth took the honors from Detroit. Natalie Portman of “Black Swan,” meanwhile took Best Actress awards from both Dallas and Las Vegas, while Jennifer Lawrence won Detroit’s equivalent honor from Detroit for her performance in “Black Swan”

Once again, folks, and I’m not just tooting my horn for the “The Social Network,” an critical awards sweep of this magnitude has never been documented before. The only thing I’ve seen come close was “Brokeback Mountain”‘s thunderous reign in 2005. However, at this point, not even that film was doing as well as the Fincher/Sorkin juggernaut.
