Peter Travers’ Top Ten List

I just received word that Peter Travers released his top ten list of 2010, making him the first major critic to publish his choices for best of the year. Now, I am, of course, thrilled that one of the nation’s top critics has officially chosen “The Social Network” as his favorite. Yet, I cannot help but point out, and I know that I’m not the first, that Travers’ lists are perhaps the most boring and mainstream in all of American press, and this year is certainly no different. Here is the list:

1. The Social Network
2. Inception
3. The King’s Speech
4. True Grit
5. The Kids Are All Right
6. 127 Hours
7. Black Swan
8. The Fighter
9. Winter’s Bone
10. Toy Story 3

For a man who claims to see over 500 films a year, you’d think that there might be one film that he’d enjoy that’s not going to be up for the Best Picture Oscar. Not to say that any of these film’s aren’t great, but none are in the least bit outside the box. These choices are uninspired at best, and straight up boring, at worst. I can only hope that my picks aren’t this bland and unoriginal by the year’s end, and if they are, someone take me out of this business.
